Choose the grid for your activity

A 3×3 grid leaves eight writing spaces with a free center or nine without. A 4×4 grid has 16 spaces and no single center. A 5×5 grid has 24 writing spaces with a free center or 25 without. Choose a larger square when players need room to draw or write longer answers.

The Letter files are 8.5 × 11 inches; A4 is 210 × 297 mm. Select the matching paper in your printer and use actual size (100%) so the grid keeps its intended dimensions. Print one copy first and check the margins.

Fill the cards before the first call

Decide the complete call list and winning pattern first. Give every participant the same approved list, but ask them to place their choices in a different order. Keep a master copy so the host can check every marked word. If everyone copies the same layout, they can win together.

For a gift-opening game, guests can predict items before the gifts are opened. For a lesson, learners can write a selection of terms from a checked vocabulary list. For younger children, use simple drawings or help with the writing.
